Block leave
Friday, September 17, 2010 @ 11:08 PM
It has been awhile, since the block leave started. My life sucked merely because mother nature is having her period, and refuses to ping me with the greenlight to the open air.

Sunday
Finally, I cleared the Army Half Marathon that I was looking forward to. I haven't been running lately. Both Jhuang and Jwen are involved in the hectic IPPT/SOC training schedule. Cyong clears his offs like free and I had to cover multifarious activities held back there in camp. Before the half marathon, the furthest I've trained thus far was 7km. So, during AHM, my leg cramped at the 14KM mark and there goes my below-2hours. Cleared pathetically by 2Hrs 8Mins and CLS after the run. (CLS: Cramp Like Siao)

After the run, I went back home and got a wink of sleep; approximately 3hours and woke up for Ykai's birthday dinner - iluma. Nonetheless, it was steamboat. But this time, Japanese Shabu Shabu.

P.S. with cute waitresses.

Monday
Went to Kallang cage to watch Bronco-soccer John invited via Facebook. People that went: Harrison, Guang Wei, Joseph Phang, Jordan, Charles, Zhi Wei, Jerald, Chee Yeong and of course John himself. It was post AHM afterall; some of them backed out last minute.

After the game, Jerald drove Harrison, Guang Wei, Chee Yeong and myself to Old Airport Road's market for lunch. Joseph Phang, ZhiWei and some of his friends joined us via Zhi Wei's car. Nothing much happened. Went home after lunch.

At night, I rode down to Chomp Chomp for supper with some awesome guys and learnt about the final promotion list. People that went: John, Jerald; Chee Yeong, Zuo Ping and of course myself.

Jerald sitting on Zuo Ping's bike.

Zuo Ping on my bike.

P.S. got to know Platoon 5 a little more.

Wednesday
Had this random dinner at Commonwealth with: Jia Huang, Edwin, Konrad and Nicholas. It was Tze Char. After the dinner, Edwin went home and the rest of us went to Serene Centre.

When we were 5mins-walk away....

Konrad: Eh Ian stays near Island Creamery also leh.
Me: Really? I call him.
Ian: Hello?
Me: Sir ah? You stay near Island Creamery right?
Ian: Ya how you know?
Me: Oh Konrad told me.
Ian: Oh.. Yes?
Me: Wanna come down to Island Creamery? I'm with thoseiwaswith... Do you wanna come down and join us for ice-cream?
Ian: Sure..

He said he lives at 5minswalkawayfromislandcreamery and he took super long to reach.

Jho: Why he take so long ah? Got other Island Creamery anot? Later not this 1 how?
Me: Oh shit. *SMS: Wait, the one at Serene Centre right?*
Ian: Umm. Yupp!
Me: *Phew*

After Islandcreamerying, he offered to send us off to Jia Huang's place. He was a !@#$%^&* driver.

Nicholas, Konrad and myself stayed over at Jia Huang's house. Starcraft 2ed, Table Tennissed, iphone 4ed and finally went to sleep. My intention was to go SGH with Wen Tao at 0700Hrs and obviously, I overslept.

P.S. Ian passed his TP on this very day.

Thursday
I had my Orthodontic appointment after like half a year because it was high key all the way till August. After that, I went Tiong Bahru met Jerald and Shawn for lunch. The both of them went PSB academy to register Edwin Foo's course and since I stay near Tiong, I joined them. Ok it was steamboat again....

After lunch, Jerald and I went over to SGH to find Wen Tao as I personally forced him to consult a doctor. He's having stomach ulcer and thankfully it is less severe than the one I had. I lectured him and rehearsed with him a couple of times regarding his Chief Complain so that the doctor wouldn't misdiagnose him.

While Wen Tao was waiting for his Blood Test results, Jerald and I left for Bugis as he wanted to buy some clothings. After an intensive clothes-hunt, we finally went for dinner and left.

P.S. gastric ulcer was excruciating.

Friday
Bintan Trip with Jordan and Jerald - cancelled
Jurong East Swimming Complex trip with Platoon 7 - cancelled (due to rain)
I stayed home the whole day and composed a blog entry after dinner.

P.S. this sucks.

Sending @Jezer Goh back to camp

Sunday night, I sent Jezer Goh back to camp after dinner - after IT show. I insisted to stay at the gate until I see someone from platoon 7.

PS/ it took quite a while.

I was playing with WenTao some childish Don't-want-to-talk-to-you game. Both of us pretended that we're quarrelling and we both tried very hard not to converse. My intention was to not talk to him till ORD. LOL! Couldn't hold back and it was really funny. He wanted to talk to me so badly but he was trying so hard to hold back. HAHAHA! The face was priceless.

Well, the fullstop of that lame game was marked during some dota game when I laned with him. I can't believe I can be that childish. HAHAHA!

Vocational Obstacle Course
Thursday, August 19, 2010 @ 6:32 PM
Goh Jian Hong, John Tan, Matthew Chua, Kok Kein, Edwin Foo, Lai Xin Hua, Shawn Lee and Mathew Teo were tasked to test out the all new Vocational Obstacle Course quite some time ago. (some call it Section SOC)

It is a course that will be implemented for the future generations NSF/NSmen. In fact, I think they'll probably add this into our reservist syllabus. Which I think it's something to look forward to. It was really fun. (Excluding the casualty evacuation part)

The course started off with a 1km fast march in SBO + Organic equipment. And finally, we arrived at the foreign looking obstacles that we were to clear. The obstacles were really easy to clear despite having to carry our organic stuff because everyone was really helpful and somehow the team spirit was there.

After the obstacles, we needed to casevec casualties. 100m via human lifting, 200m via stretcher. Casualty evacuation was
shag. And Edwin was the one on the stretcher.

My forearm was flexed to the maximum and I was about to let go the stretcher that Edwin was lying on. My grip was lousy, my palms were sweating cats and dogs. I needed tremendous arm power back then to compensate my gripping strength like the last time during SOC. Fortuitously, I hung on. I don't know why.

Edwin is an important friend? Or was it because that there were female officers looking?

JianHong and Matthew carried me as well, I felt so fat and heavy. They were struggling.

Other than the casevec thing, it was really fun. Once again, good job everyone.

PS/ When I mention my platoon mates, I'm referring to Platoon 7 men and Platoon 6 specs.

Abstraction
Sunday, August 15, 2010 @ 8:51 PM
The Youth Olympic week barely started and yet, my mood meandered abruptly. In fact, it had difficulty escalating once it hit a certain point down there. I think it'll be a gloomy week for me again.

I don't want to be petulant in this entry. Or rather, I have no mood for that.

Relationship....

Friendship....

Kinship....

Pernicious objects on these 3 ships clustered and stabbed me all at once. It is doleful, but life has to go on.

Youth Olympic Games 2010` Singapore

Rings of the world united on the largest floating platform in the world.

Today's the birthday of the Youth Olympic Games. The opening ceremony was held at Marina Bay floating platform where the stupendous torch was illuminated. It was a spectacular extravaganza - probably better than our National Day Parade 2010 which I've watched a hundred million times.

Standard Offsticle Course
Wednesday, August 11, 2010 @ 6:39 PM
Passing the Standard Obstacle Course is like a big deal - at least for now. You get random night's off, you get random offs.

Last night, I went back to camp with Jezer, Zuoping and Cheeyeong. Jezer's today's BOS, Zuoping booked in for godknowsreason and as for Cheeyeong and I, we went to pace our colleagues for SOC.

Alvin and Jerald passed, congratulations. As for Collin, I do not know. I paced Collin for the first run down and Tom took over after the low ramp. Technically, the timing he leaped off the ramp should minimally get him a pass. Hopefully he'll do 22Alpha proud :)

Random thought when I was pacing: If Edwin wasn't there to pace me, I wouldn't have passed. I want to include this entry with this because this is something I want to remember. Thanks Edwin and also people who supported me with their heart, soul and eyes - Charles, Boon, WK, Chuck and JH.... I hereby, once again thank you people
many much.

Jezer and Waikit's 20th birthday.
Monday, August 9, 2010 @ 1:45 AM
First of all, congratulations to Jing Feng upon promoting to CFC @ brunei. You definitely deserve it. I'm not CFC btw. Please stop flattering me (saying I'm CFC-to-be) because it'll only make me feel that I've achieved nothing for the past 19 months.

Secondly, I went swimming with Konrad today. I was a lousy coach but I definitely saw progress. I was happy and at the same time rueful. Kon lost $20 because of me. Hate myself.

Next, I went to meet the Tampines people for dinner (Tze Char) as it was Jezer's birthday. Went Kallang Leisure Park right after dinner for a movie. And before the movie....

We went to starbucks to chill out as Kallang Leisure Park isn't a very exciting shopping centre to begin with. Shared a cup of Java chip with ZuoPing.

And ya, this is my current bed buddy @Zack Chua Zuoping. I missed the last train and he sent me home despite being so tired after a long day. Thanks!

The birthday boy - Jezer Goh Jun Ye.

PS/ Thx Sgt Eugene for nominating me for CFC. It probably won't happen because I'm not CPL for 6 months yet but still, it is greatly appreciated.

PSPS// Konrad, I didn't waste my time. You're making great progress. I'll be seeing a swimming-Konrad soon!

Sentimentality
Friday, August 6, 2010 @ 10:02 PM
"Why am I feeling so depressed?" I asked myself. I couldn't find the answer until today, when I reflected upon my NS journey. I found it.

When a frame of my life I cherish approaches the end, I tend to blank out. I'll gawk at my surrounding(in fact, everything around me), ranging from my peers, to the dried leaves fallen on the ground. I want to remember everything for I am greedy.

I want to remember how the mud splattered when we bashed through the vegetation during field exercises. I want to remember the painful IV sessions I went through in medic course. I want to remember how the ORDing commanders gave us our heads-out RO. I want to remember how annoying Mr Bala was. I want to bring home infinite memories.

Time surges forward, and never the opposite. I know that it's impossible to experience this ever again. This feeling corresponds to the feeling I felt during my last lap in medic course. I couldn't help but to isolate myself, mimicking a video camera, hoping to capture the most beautiful moment... No, in my case, hoping to capture everything.

Well, Edwin told me that moving on is part and parcel of life. Yes, inevitably, I'll be moving on...

Signing off,

Matt

2 Digits
Sunday, August 1, 2010 @ 3:27 AM
The number of days to Operational Ready Date (ORD) had finally decreased to 2 digits. Cheers!

Saigang (shit work) after saigang. Life is all about saigang when it comes to post-atec period. It ranges from fun pack packing to bird shit scraping. Well, it doesn't matter. I tried to help people whenever I could. I sacrificed my sleep-in-bunk time and helped because if I didn't, Jeremy and Nicholas will be gobbled up by @#$!%&* I don't need reconition like CFC or soldier of the month. I need appreciation.

Everyone was sitting down packing NDP fun packs, I was standing up (in fact, walking non stop) loading the packs into the container with the Papa Sierra-s. People can just throw the packs around, and expect me to walk here and there to pick it up, arrange it nicely, count, and then load when that person's job is just to zip up the bag. And when I started sweating, I received comments like: Don't step garang leh.. I cannot take it leh...

4hours-ready-to-rock-and-roll duties started. Afew days back, we were told to clean the vehicle shed. Traces of artillery bombardment from the birds were detected and we needed to rectify the situation. The usual lazy ones empowered us with their sparkling eyes and claimed that it was difficult the scrape this scrape that. WaiKit told me to help them out and there it goes: Wah.. wayang only... comfirm CFC liao lor (in a sarcastic manner).

It was so tired trying to keep smiling, faking that I'm glad to help you cannot-be-bothered people. It is really @&#*$% to see Jeremy and Nicholas doing work for the whole family.

Sometimes, I ask myself: Am I helping people because I'm trying to be a good soldier? Did I do it out of pity? Or am I doing it because they're my friends? Will I do the same thing if the people suffering are not my friends? Nevermind.

Had this super random dinner with Shermi and Rachel at T.G.I Friday, Heeren. Shermila will be flying off to England soon so I thought I should catch up with her. O level days.... Nostalgic..

Effort
Sunday, July 25, 2010 @ 9:03 PM
Today,I went dipping into the pool again. I decided that I needed to put in a little extra effort in my swimming as I am really weak - weak enough to fail SOC at least. Somehow, my thighs are aching now. It don't usually happen. Is this aging? I don't know.

Corporal First Class
Friday, July 23, 2010 @ 10:50 PM
The usual me wouldn't give a shit about army. But somehow, all of a sudden, I cared alot! Events happening in camp, unexpectedly, escalated great significance in my thoughts.

Yesterday, I failed SOC once again! Heh! But at least, I cleared the swing trainer!! (Something I couldn't clear for the past 1 year +!) I was contented. I wasn't
that shag when I was running... No, I was shag - Or rather, my arms were!

I used up 19.862431% of my arm's power on Parallel bars; 79.62314% on Swing Trainer - my upper limbs worned out instantaneously right after. When my palms sweat (ESP during tests), I need a massive amount of arm power to conpensate the loss in gripping strength. And ultimately, after the generous compensation, my arms
nua-ed. Needless to say, I waved goodbye to my awesome colleagues at the station where the ropes dangled. BYE BYE GRAND SLAM! :D

PS/ I enjoyed the SOC training!
PSPS// It is never fearful when one fails, it is fearsome when one gives up!

I addition to SOC, buddy SNG and Edwin Foo got promoted to Corporal First Class! There are countless things I want to learn from them. (Especially in terms of attitude and character)

I have a serious attitude problem and my character's generally bad. This 2 CFCs here are probbably the toughest-to-piss-off in my circle of friends. No matter what, they handle things calmly with a smile on their face. They never complain or whine about little issues here and there which is totally substantial. I want to change... I want.

Ok Konrad won't be online so soon as he recently moved his house so I'll upload a sneak peek of Genting`2010
